J Meejin Yoon, Showcasing the use of responsive technologies and the future of Architecture and Design.

About: J Meejin Yoon, is an architect, designer, and educator, whose projects and research investigate the intersections between architecture, technology, and the public realm. In 2014, she was appointed as the first female head of the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2019, she is appointed as the Dean of the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at the Cornell University and has the distinguished of being the first female dean of the department. In 2015, Yoon won 2015 New Generation Leader award from Architectural Record as part of the magazine’s second annual Women in Architecture Forum and Awards event. Meejin Yoon is cofounding principal of Höweler and Yoon Architecture, a studio recognized for design innovation and excellence. Among current projects are the Memorial for Enslaved Laborers at the University of Virginia, the Coolidge Corner Theater expansion, and the MIT Museum. The studio has received numerous professional awards and honours. Yoon’s work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York, the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, and the National Art Center in Japan. Publications by Yoon include Expanded Practice (Princeton Architectural Press, 2009), Public Works (MAP Book Publishers, 2008), and Absence (Printed Matter and the Whitney Museum of Art, 2003). She received a B.Arch. from Cornell AAP and a master of architecture in urban design from Harvard GSD.
